Version Upgrade

Hello, I am very new to this forum but was wondering if anyone could answer a question for me. I have a CD box version of Sony Vegas Movie Studio HD Platinum 11 which is installed on my PC running Windows 8.1 64bit. I am about to purchase a CD box version of Sony Vegas Movie Studio 13 Suit. Do I need to uninstall version 11 before installing 13 or will the new version overwrite the old. I don't want both versions running on the same PC. Thanks for any help / advice you can offer me.

No, you don't need to uninstall version 11. Both 11 and 13 can be installed at the same time.

Hello Mike, thanks for the quick reply to my forum post. From what you say, Can I just confirm that once I have purchased it the new version Movie Studio 13 Suite will overwrite the old version of Movie Studio HD Platinum Suite 11. I don't want to end up with both versions on my machine just the new one. Thanks again.

Not Mike, but the answer is no. If you don't want old version on your system you need to uninstall it. It's probably better to do this before installing the new version.

Even though you're buying the "boxed CD" version, you should still download it anyway instead of installing from the CD. The CDs are sent to press often before the first bug fixes are available, while the download will have all the latest features and fixes.

Hello Tog62 and thanks for the info. I had a feeling it would be this way but, just wanted to confirm the situation. Thanks again.

Hello Chienworks and thanks for the info. I agree with what you say about the download over a purchased disc. However due to my very slow broadband connection (Less than 2.20 Mbps on a good day) I have to go with the CD route and then set hours aside to download updates as and when available. Thanks again for the advice, Much appreciated.

It is better to have both the old and new versions installed at the same time ... until you are sure that you will only use the new version. Sometimes the newer versions don't do things the old ones do (or not as well)

ALSO .... you can open a project that was made with a previous version on a newer version ... but ... you can not open a project made (or modified) with a newer version with an older version.

What that means is if you open an older project in a newer version, and save it, you will NOT be able to re-open it in the version it was originally created in. So if you want to open an old project in a new version ... SAVE it under a different name ( "Save As" ) from the new version. That way you can always re-open it with the original software if needed.

At 2.2Mbps a typical download (usually around 200MB) should take under 15 minutes.

Heck, i remember when it took me 2 hours to download Sound Forge 5, and that was probably only 10MB.

Hi brighterside, That is a very good point and, I must admit I hadn't even considered it. Thanks so much for making me aware of the situation with old / new versions of the programme. I will take your advice and run with both versions for the time being. Thanks again.
