Vertical lines in DVD rendering

I am editing my daughter' wedding video by combining professional stills with DV I took. The professional stills are all JPEG high resolution (1024 x 1544 pixel range using sRGP Color Rep). When I render in V4 using MPEG-2, they still all look fine when I view using Media Player. After I burn the same file using DVDA, I play the DVD through Media Player again but I notice some very discreet vertical distortion lines in the stills. It looks really bad during subtle pans. The DV is rendering and burning just fine.

So it seems like something is happening during the burn. I have tried several different bitrates between 6,000,000 - 8,000,000 and I can't see a difference. I have also rendered from V4 using "reduced interlace flicker" and "progressive scan only". The distortion was really bad before I eliminated the interlace scanning. I've been trying all different combinations trying to get a better resolution in the final product and don't know where to turn and need some help.

Is it possible that my codec (Mainconcept) could be corrupted and could that cause something like this??? What can screw up stills during the DVDA prep phase that can introduce distortion into stills? Does the Codec even come into play at this time? About the only thing I haven't tried yet is reloading V4 & DVDA, but I really don't want to upgrade to 4.0e based on other people's comments on this forum.

As usual, any help will be great appreciated.

Have you tried viewing the finished file in something other than Media Player? I notice that whenever I render a file, Media Player always plays it back with some blurring around all objects; but if I play the file with PowerDVD it looks fine.

Well, the vertical lines only appear when I use MediaPlayer to play back the DVD. The MPEG file looks fine in MediaPlayer. I also noticed the lines when I play the DVD using a standard Toshiba player on a Sony TV. I just have to believe something is happening during the prep stage of DVDA.

What was your "rener quality" in the custom mpeg settings? I've noticed that when i set it to best, high res pics looks better. Try that.

Render quality using the NTSC DVD template was set to high

Thanks Kevin.... My problem is with vertical distortion lines but I will give the suggestions in that thread a try. I think I have tried just about everything except for attempting to match up the aspect ratios. Never had this problem before with stills but this is the first time I worked with "high-resolution" shots from a pro photographer.

Once again, the MPEG looks fine, but the VOB has the lines.

I'll post back with the results.

Tom,

Could you e-mail me at hugoharris@hotmail.com (I use this as a "dummy" address, and I'll e-mail you back with my actual address)? I'd like to see one of your stills.

Kevin.

Hve you checked to see if you are passing illegal colors? This can blow over colors in most any player.
Just for giggles, render a short loop region wth the Broadcast filters on. It may well be that you are blowing the encoder as well.

Spot - Tried this already using the legacy Broadcast color plug-in and could see no difference.

Kevin - Tried to email a picture but it came back to me. Since the picture is about 1MB, I assume hotmail has a size restriction? I will resent a message to you and you can give me your email.
