Very basic - what IS scripting?

Sorry for this most basic question, but I am curious what kinds of things you can do with scripting and these VEG files?

I have Vegas Studio 4, so I know I can't do scripting, but maybe I'll upgrade to the full Vegas if it sounds like something I could benefit from.

(I didn't see a FAQ about scripting and VEG files, so I figured I'd ask here)

A VEG file is simply a project file. Start working on a new project, choose File - Save and it will be saved as a VEG file. Similar to a saved Word document being a DOC file.

As for scripting - that's an extremely powerful feature of Vegas. It allows you to automate redundant tasks or even add new features to Vegas. It's writing a program that controls Vegas.

This thread also has some good info:

There are several free scripts available at both my website at www.jetdv.com and the VASST website and a few other places scattered around the WEB.

There are also a few scripts for purchase such as Excalibur, Ultimate S, and the Veggie Toolkit. A quick search will turn up information on all of them.

Ah, OK I think I get it.

For example if I wanted to apply a blur filter, add a pan/crop, and a certain transition, I could make a script to do all that and then just click a button to make it happen instead of having to do all that manually?

Yes.
