Very Odd "Exception" Problem... Help Please!

I've been trying to put together some videos I have gotten with realplayer SP download off facebook on Google Chrome, but constantly come across a problem when using Vegas Movie Studio Platinum 9.

The first time I put the videos together (there are three in total) everything was working fine. I had worked for about two hours and then took a break leaving the program on. When I came back, the following error had popped up:

"An error has occurred during the current operation.

An exception occurred."

followed by the details:

Clicking okay quit me out of vegas. When I reopened the file it told me I should quickly save since vegas closed unexpectedly. Upon closing the window the same error popped up with the same results. Everytime I tried to open the file it gave me the same error.

I decided to start fresh and open a new Vegas file, but when I dragged the videos (which are mp4s by the way) into the window I immediantly get the same error with all three.

A couple days later, I redownloaded the files and it worked perfectly into a new vegas file. I began working on putting the video together, and four hours later once I was almost finished, the program came up the same error, out of nowhere.

Please help! It's getting really annoying to have to spend so much time with Vegas getting this to work. I've tried rebooting and uninstalling and various other basic solutions but none have worked. I find it really strange that a video will work perfectly at first and then four hours later not sync into Vegas. The video files play fine on there own. Help!

There is nothing we can do to help you with these files. Vegas' MP4/MOV h.264 support is simply very bad, as it runs out of resources with such files before too long.

The only thing you can do is:
1. Write to Sony and ask them to fix their MP4/MOV support which has been below par since forever.
2. Re-encode the files into an editing-friendly format, e.g. Cineform ($129). No freeware lossless codec exists that Vegas like. The ones that Vegas likes (e.g. HDV mpeg2, DV AVI) aren't lossless (and are interlaced too, your videos are progressive).

If the files you are working with are only 3 of them, you can try installing and using Lagarith (you can encode the files to Lagarith one by one via Vegas' AVI customized export). This is a lossless codec, very slow to edit, but at least it doesn't crash as often.

Another way to deal with the problem is to use proxy editing btw, tutorial here:
http://eugenia.gnomefiles.org/2007/12/12/proxy-editing-with-sony-vegas/
However, on step5, you need to rename the originals as .mpg rather than the proxies as .mp4 that the tutorial suggests (special workflow for .mp4 files only).
