very slow rendering

I have a video editing workstation that has a dual AMD 2.4 ghz MP processors with 1 gig of ram and a 160 gig dual drive set up as a raid 0. In example I made a garbage matte of a chroma key subject and just to render 1min 24 sec garbage matte in NTSC DV AVI format, it's taking it 38 minutes... wtf??? Suggestions, anyone? Please!!!!!

Wow, that is slow. make sure your track compositing mode is not set to 3d. Slows to a crawl, and make sure you arent using magic bullet, slows to a creeping crawl.
