VERY VERY dissaponted with the lack of Support from SoFo/Sony

DJPadre wrote on 9/30/2003, 10:25 AM
i mean come on, ive jsut done a whole search over this forum and basically the information SoFo staff have provided is nothing which couldnt be found on another forum, or found within the apps manual...

No offense, but when it comes to the real issues like glitches detailed in this thread
http://www.mediasoftware.sonypictures.com/forums/ShowMessage.asp?MessageID=216416&Replies=0&Page=3

and this thread
http://www.mediasoftware.sonypictures.com/forums/ShowMessage.asp?MessageID=217679&Replies=1&Page=1

it makes one very annoyed at the investment made on an applicaiotn which is substandard and does not have the support which is advertised with the products sale.

It would be nice to get some help with regard to unresolved glitches as detailed above....

My own issue about File Sizes is also a mystery as noone has responded but there have been afew references to "innacurate" file properties on afew threads here...

Point is, SoFO are still to respod or even fix this issue...
and yes, im using the correct templates... but you tell me how a 3.2 gb video file can be seem as 8.6gb video file in Architect...
You tell me how a 100mb avi can be seen as 20mb....

Sorry but the frustration levels are so intense right now that i find it disheartening to think that an investment like this has done nothing but waste time attempting to render files which already meet the DVDA requirements and file size restrictions.

Pls explain how this happens and what i can do as a use to fix this ongoing issue...

Frankly im over it and i actually talked 5 other studios to purchse these apps, and they too experience these glitches.

so i know im not the only one...

Any help is greatly appreciated, as i can see thee issues may be a little deeper than most issues posted here, however it woudl be nice to see someone actualyl try to find a solution...

Ive installed, reinstalled, repairs, swapped chopped changed re-encoded you name it, and to no avail, and frankly i dotn have the time to try to deal with an application which cannot fathom the most basic of calculations...

I have had no problems like this, but what I would do is let DVDA encode the video from the AVI. file and the audio separately intc AC3 from the rendered PCM from the project. This is not to say there isn't a problem/bug in the program but it may help resolve the issue.

Pete... this is a PEER to PEER forum. It isn't a help desk where there are a dozen Sony employees waiting for someone to ask a question. If you need more immediate help, click on support above.

Further, your question HAS been addressed in the forum. Many times. Are you using the latest version for starters?

hey guys, im not jsut referrfin to my own issues here, but i am indeed using the latest version, also the only way i can work around is a similar way to which aussiemick has described, the ony difference is that i encode the ac3 within vegas as i do rotaric 5.1 panning within my videos...

allowing dvda to encode the video is the only way to deal with this issue (that i know of ) at this time

i understand its a p2p forum, however i have seen numerous post replies from sofo staffers and one would liek to think that as they obviously view the site, that they take some notice of issues within the software.

Its been my experinece that those that complain about not getting their questions answered don't really know how to ask questions in a forum like this. Yours is a classic example. You start off complaining, then you give several links to other threads apparently expecting others to first read all that, then you wonder out loud why you got few if any responses. And if you had a SPECIFIC question in there, I didn't see it.

Its a no brainer. I got better things to do than try to decipher what you really want. I assume so do others. That's how things are in peer to peer forums. The best stated questions tend to get the quickest and clearest responses. Others may wither on the vine or turn into a game of twenty questions before we finally get down to what you really want.

YOU are the guy that wants help. So learn how to concisely ask the question rather than complaining about 'lack of support' when in fact this and the Vegas forums are some of the most helpful of any for any application.

Just an observation, but it seems the Sony techs are most likely to respond IF answers here are incorrect or totally absent. You need to realize "help" from Sony techs (I'm guessing) isn't part of their job description and rather many do so on their own time, frequently from their home juding my the hour they responded because they're nice guys.

DJ,

I understand your frustration. Unlike SoFo/Sony's other software products, this product has a lot of problems.

I am well aware of the problems you are having. Others have reported them as well. If I understand you correctly, you are finding that your project size suddenly jumps way up beyond the 4.7 Gbyte level even though you didn't add anything except a few menus.

There is clearly a bug in 1.0c (it may have been in earlier versions as well). I haven't been able to come up with the exact steps to re-create it, but it usually happens when inserting submenus, or when creating links between menus. Under some combination of circumstances (which can't be too rare because many people have the problem, but doesn't happen all the time because some people have never seen it), one of your media files gets included a second time.

You can see whether this is what is happening by going to the "Optimize DVD ..." option (on the File menu) and looking at the list of included files. You should see your menu files, and they should be small (unless you have animated backgrounds and other motion effects, in which case they'll be modestly large). Then you should see your MPEG file or files. These should show up only once. If the same file(s) show up multiple times, that is your problem. The solution is to delete your submenus, check the Optimize DVD dialog again, and see if the duplicates have disappeared. Then, re-create the menus. For whatever reason, the second time around the problem (for me at least) does not recur.

Hope this helps!

I've had similar experiences with the bogus file size reporting. Exact same circumstances as johnmeyer reported and the exact same solution. The wierd thing is it doesn't seem to happen all the time. We still use DVDA regularly, despite some of its shortcomings and eagerly await V2.0.

I've never had this problem so I'm only guessing here so please doubt shout at me if I've got it wrong.
My suspicion is that this isn't a bug but a combination of factors. DVDA is none to bright, put two menu items that should play the same video and it will put TWO copies onto the DVD. I suspect this is how things are going haywire. When trying to create entry points in a scene selection menu a another copy of the video is being called up and hence the overall file size goes up.

I too await the hiss of the torpedo that will be DVD-A2.0, as it strikes the bow of the ships Encore and Studio. Kaboom. It can be done.

thanks for the responses guys,
BillyBoy, as for your comments with regard to my questioning methods, there comes a time where one has exhausested all avenues at finding a solution to a seemingly basic problem, either way, you dont know my history with BBS and forums, in fact i admin a tech related VBulletin forum and am a member of many other tech and DV forums, where peoples questioning methods arent an issue if the question is plausible, which in this case it is, as im obviously not the only one experiencing this peculiar problem.
I appreciate your point though.
Hopefully SoFo will find an answer to the mysterious file size issue with the next update
