VF 2.0c Update - Anybody had problems or Kool surprises?

Well

I've taken the plunge and have updated my UK purchase of VF 2.0 to 2.0c build 125. So far so good. Haven't printed to tape yet. Have produced an AVI which works extremely well in Media Player... so far so good.

Has anybody had some pleasant surprises I can look forward to?

Again thanks to VinceG and all the other Kats who escaped from VW, for inviting me to to take the VF route.

Grazie

Upgrading from an earlier VF version, VF 2.0c fixed an audio sync problem I had. Printing to tape, though, has been a little tricky. I had to make sure I had disconnected from my network and had every conceivable non-essential background application turned off, and still for some unexplained reason, During print-to-tape, the transfer would freeze for a few seconds, then continue... sometimes going to a blue screen, then back to normal. Of course, my recorder kept going through all of this, and I had to start over. It wasn't my DV cam, because I have 3, and tried them all. After about the 6th attempt, it all transfered without incident. The program was about 33 minutes long. I have a new super computer with 2 AMD processors @ 1.4gHz, so processing speed shouldn't have been a problem... I could have a funky firewire card. This was my first production, so we'll see if this becomes a disturbing pattern. Good luck.

Thanks for your detailed feedback. I've been able - pre updating - to render to an avi and then send this through a Hollywood Dazzle DV-AV convertor to a VCR with no problem. I have to go this route as I'm running WinME. I've got an external Maxtor 7200 60gb hd so the whole process doesn't now put too much pressure on my on board (Dell Inspiron laptop) hd and processor, while the DV stuff is making the setup thrash about.

Any pleasant surprises besides the audio sync fix?

Thanks again,

Grazie

Yaaaahhoooooooo!

I'm free of VW and in my opinion all that angst stuff.... I found it too uncreative.

Now if Dazzle (I've got the Hollywood Bridge system) got together with Sf-VF - they could rule the budget-end NLE world. See VinceG's report on the Dazzle options on VW forum... if you can stomach reading all the problems posted over there. - I know I can't anymore. That's not smugness, it's just that I had some really crucial frustrations getting MGI's kit to function, and I did phone, and I did email their support line so often... well I was about to give up on doing NLE until I gave myself the reason to purchase something like Premiere or the like.

No, you're right!

Thanks Stiffler

Grazie-

Glad to see you over here where the smart people are. Why are they smart? Because they chose VF, of course! And now you are one of them. :)

Happy Editing!!!
