VF Effect Question

I'm a disappointed VW5 "user" currently fence sitting afa my next dive into vid editing software. I'm completely non techie but competent end user. I did a forum search and came up with results only for Vegas wrt my question

- is it possible (difficult?) to pixelate (mask?) a portion (face) of video. Or something that creates a similar effect? I'm guessing, the more movement the more complicated...

This effect can be done quite nicely and easily in both VideoFactory and Vegas. The only real difference is that Vegas offers keyframes so that you can have the pixelated area follow the movement of the subject in the frame. VideoFactory only has start & end points, so every time the subject changes speed or direction you'll have to split the effect into a new clip; slightly more work, but not really difficult.

Well, I thought of copying the clip onto the overlay track so that it's aligned with the original, pixelating it and then using the cookie cutter. Is there an easier or more direct way?

Cheers

IanG: that is the way to do it.
