VF movies unsupported

I'm real new at this stuff, so bear with me. I converted some D8 tapes via VF2 to web video (WMV & RM for both 56k & DSL). All my new web videos have about a 2 1/2 blank (black) screen before the video actually starts. I decided I'd retrim the new web videos, but VF won't let me load ANY of them into the editing window -- it says the file formats are not supported. They play fine with Windows player & RP, but I they are not supported in editing VF????

Help!

Yes, this is true. You can output WMV and RM but you can't input them. There are a handful of applications that can open WMV files (Vegas Video is one) but I don't know any application that can edit RM files.

Also, didn't you save the original project file?

To open RM files you first need to convert them to AVI. There are several applications that make an attempt, all are far from perfect, so your results will vary. The best of the lot is TINRA which stand for 'That Is Not Real Anymore'

I did save the original project file. There is no blank (black) area before the video, but all of my output files have about 2 1/2 minutes of blank video first. Any thoughts?

Could be almost anything from you just not noticing some space before your video (zoom in on the timeline!) to the time it takes most "Internet" codec to buffer before playing (Death to 56k!).
