VF Vidcap25...and dropped frames

MoBetta wrote on 10/1/2001, 9:56 AM
I upgraded to V.V. 2.0h and to VF Vidcap25 and I am now experiencing dropped frames during capture (my system: Pentiumlll, 600MHz, 256 RAM).
-First, capture keeps recording for an additional 2-3 sec. after pressing the “stop recording” button.
-Capture splits a single captured event into additional events, depending on the number of scenes being captured, and drops frames at the beginning of each additional event. Vidcap25 will not record seamlessly between two scenes from the DV tape.

Any suggestions?

update to VideoFactory 2.0a if you haven't done so. I think those are bugs we fixed in the VF ".a" update.

Hello,

When I install the 2.0a, disappear the film effects. Why?

I just downloaded Video Factory a couple of days ago when I installed V.V. 2.0h, so I am assuming I am running the latest version...unless there is a more current version of it. Is it an issue between V.V. and Vidcap25 ? or an issue within Vegas Factory?

Thanks

If you haven't, try running the vidcap25.exe file by itself from the run feature in the Windows start menu.
I have Vegas 2.0g and use Vidcap2.5 for all my captures. Never had any problems with dropped frames. Sometimes the audio won't start-up for a few seconds via preview, but it is always in the DV file.
Vidcap 2.5 doesn't like my Geforce II in dual monitor mode though.
What OS are you running?

I am running Window 98SE. I did open Vidcap25 via Start/Run menus and the same problem persists? Could the dropped frames be related to system overloaded. The following programs are running while I am using V.V and Vidcap:Explorer - Mgavrte - Whagent - McUpdate McAgent - (both McAfee antivirus programs) - Rundll and Systray. Do I need to have all of those programs open while using V.V.??

Thanks

You need to disable any antivirus programs running, and any others you don't really need. On my system, only systray and explorer are running. If you are using a MS optical mouse, you may have point32 running as well. ATI video drivers like to run a couple of programs in the background, if you're using an ATI card. You should be able to safely stop those from running also. Go to www.pcmag.com and download Startup Cop from their free utilities section. You use it to disable any programs being loaded on system startup. You can use it to re-enable any program that really does need to be running, so it's been safe for me. It's been one of the most valuable utilities I use to solve system problems. Also, for video editing in general, go to this link http://www.videoguys.com/speedtweaks.html
print it out, and follow the instructions to the letter. My system functioned much more smoothly for video editing after applying those settings. Also, when printing to tape using VidCap 2.5, I think I noticed a small glitch where the AVI files were supposed to be "seamlessly" joined together. I'll pay closer attention to this on my next project. Good luck.

I've found Enditall to be a better running program managing utility than Startupcop, you dont have to reboot. Check it out, it's great.

If you don't want to bother with external software to kill the auto-starting
programs, in Win98 you can use the startup configuration utility:

Start, programs, accessories, system tools, system information,
tools, system configuration utility, startup ...

(*Whew*, yes, i know that's a lot of mouse clicks, but it makes sense
when you do it.)

You will see a list of most of the progams that get launched when
windows boots. You can usually safely turn off everything except
TaskMonitor and SystemTray. I usually leave ScanRegistry on as well
since it only runs for a few seconds and then quits, and can really save
you if you have a crash.

You will need to reboot for these changes to take place. You can also
turn any of these functions back on if you wish. You should also check
the Start, Programs, Startup folder and remove any items from there
that you don't absolutely need to have running every time you start up
your computer.
