Have you installed the device drivers that came with the new drive? Until you do this, Windows won't know it's a CD burner and will think it's only a regular CD-ROM drive. Sonic Foundry's software apparently depends on using drivers installed in Windows, which Roxio does not.

newbie question: Does VF directly allow you to burn a SVCD? Do i need a burning program?

I re-installed winXP and VF2.0c now recognizes the burner. I haven't installed Roxio's stuff yet. I hope they get along.

Burning to a CD in VF can only be done with the mpeg 1.1 rendered file. Right? There are other programs I haven't used at VCDhelp.com that will make an SVCD.

Goodpoints, or anybody, can you tell exactly what you did because I have the exact same problem? My operating system is 98se and the CD-RW is a Que!Fire Firewire 24X-10X-40X. I thought I loaded all the software provided with the CD-RW. Thanks.
