vidcap.60 freeze

Hi.

My system:
Fully updated XP Pro SP2
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-EP35-DS4, BIOS ver. F1 with 4 GB memory
Processor: Core 2 Duo E8400 @ 3,0 GHz
Harddisk: 750 GB HITACHI DESKSTAR 7K1000 32MB, SATA
Graphics card: Asus EN8600GT, Silent with latest nVidea driver
Vegas Movie Studio 8.0D
Video camera: Sony DCR-HC62

When I use Vegas' vidcap to capture DV-tape via FireWire from my video camera to harddisk, vidcap's preview window sometimes freezes during rewind or fast forward when I am searching. I can then no longer control the camera via FireWire and have to restart vidcap to continue.

The source material on the DV-tape I want to transfer is one long .avi-file which has been recorded on a Sony DSR-25 from a HI8 tape. I have several similar tapes and have the same problem with most of them. There are no problems during play or transfer at normal speed, no dropped frames or anything else.

Does anyone have any idea where I should start my search?

Thanks in advance.

Test firewire cable and card. Could be hardware malfunction.

You can try WinDV to see how it behaves. If you have problems with it, could be hardware issue as Ivan suggests.

You've restarted your PC, correct?

Hi Ivan.

I have tried several cables and the firewire is onboard, not a separate card.

I have done a bit more testing and here is a more accurate description:

During fast forward there is no problem, only during rewind. It happens during my search for the position on the tape where to start my capture. Shortly after I have started rewinding, the picture freezes and I therefore can't find the start point.

Do you know if there is any way to remove and reinstall vidcap60.exe or do I have to remove and reinstall all of Vegas?

Hi MSmart.

I can't use WinDV as it doesn't have any jog/shuttle facilities. Thanks anyway.
