Vidcap problems in Pro8

Trying to capture 50 minutes from a 60 minute DV tape. If I try to set timing using advanced capture, the tape starts playing forward from the 50 minute mark and captures from there instead of rewinding and capturing from the beginning.

If i click on capture tape (non-advanced capture), and click the stop button when I reach the 50-minute mark, vidcap freezes and I cannot close the program. The only recovery is to power off the computer.

The resulting avi is truncated.

I am stumped.

Any suggestions would be welcome.

Thanks.

2 things. 1) - you're not alone - I've had this problem with vidcap6 so many times, but I was never in a position to provide any suitable error report to submit. I've had it happen on live recording during concerts and lost that entire concert (and connected HDD at same time), and during capture from tape.

One thing I resorted to, was removing the "scene detection" - that helped reduce the time post-recording before the app became responsive again.

I know this one is personal, and many people have no problems whatsoever, but until vidcap6 evolves, then I won't use it any further. I love Vegas, but I do not use it for capturing any more. It's one of the benefits (unfortunetly there are so many drawbacks) to using DVDRAM camera.

I hope someone provides a more useful post for you.

It seems to be working, now. I don't think I would have the nerve to capture video from a live concert straight into the computer (and I didn't know that it was even possible with Vegas vidcap).

I'd be curious to know if any changes have been made to this part of Vegas. As I recall, there were some minor tweaks way back, some update of Version 2 or perhaps from Version 2 to Version 3. But, it hasn't changed much over the years. Of course, it's only a capture application, so, I suppose there isn't much that needs to be done with it. Generally, I don't have problems, and, fortunately, I don't rely upon the computer to capture live video.

I capture live sound all the time, but, I guess audio capture doesn't place much of a strain on the resources of today's computers.

I don't use Vegas at all for live audio capture, preferring instead to use Stenberg's Wavelab.

Thanks for the reply.
