Tenndevil - When you are in Capture menu check out the Options>Preferences>File Management - look and see if you are/have a folder you should be capturing to AND it is checked. Apologies in advance if you have done it already.

Grazie

I have not done it, but after hours of searching and head banging I found it, It is a conflict with an ATI file, at least for me it is, I cut the file and put it elsewhere for safekeeping and now everything works like a charm.
C:program files/ati multimedia/tv and this was the file giving me fits AVBISurf.ax, took that file out and all is good, very good. I have tested my theory several times, put the file back and I get the error take the file out error gone, It is an ATI problem
