VidCap60: Have VP8 But Still Fires Up V6

Soniclight wrote on 2/2/2008, 10:23 PM
I unchecked the option in V6 Options so that it shouldn't interface with any vidcap sofware, yet VP8's vidcap60 (I believe it's the same one as in V8 -- they didn't change it) still launches V6.

I did tell VP8 to use its own VidCap60, but that didn't change it. VidCap fired up V6 even when launched from VP8.

Hmm... t'is odd.

I haven't uninstalled V6 for others here have suggested to leave the older version installed for emergencies or what have you. Though once a project becomes 8, one can't open it in 6 anymore.

Bottom line: Would like vidcap to fire up VP8, not 6. Is this a bug or simply something to set somewhere -- if so where, oh ye Wise Ones?

Thanks.

V8 ships with Vidcap 6, so what you're seeing is how it should work.

I don't know if "should work" fits here.

One pays to upgrade a product, hence its component (Vidcap) should fire up the upgrade, not the older app. Sounds buggy to me.

The only solution I see is to uninstall 6. Or maybe just remove the vidcap .exe in the 6 folder.

Sonic are you saying VIdCap6 is firing UP Vegas 6?

And I think Bob believes that the V6 you are referring to is VidCap6 - but it is VEGAS6 you are referring to? Yes? LOL!!

I've never known VidCap to launch Vegas. I've seen it the other way around, but never seen the capture program start up the editing program. I don't even know how to make it do this or where any settings would be.

But, i will point out that new builds of VidCap6.0 did ship with Vegas 7 and 8. They're not the same executable. The one that ships with Vegas 7 leaks some memory. The one that ships with Vegas 8 leaks tons of memory. I now use the one that came with Vegas 6 even though i'm editing with Vegas 8.

That's where I got confused. Well I know what Soniclight said but as Vidcap don't start Vegas I assumed he'd gotten confused as well.

Maybe he's got something really wierd going on but all I've ever seen Vegas do is start Vidcap as another program and when you exit Vidcap you're back in Vegas but only because it was always open.

Eh? Several versions of VidCap? can we have some comparison BUILD numbers?

Sorry for reply delay, but life happens :)

And, indeed, Vidcap60.exe in Vegas Pro8 fires up Vegas 6 (V6). Long night, time to go to bed, will see if removing the Vidcap60 in Vegas 6 does the trick.

But let me ask you this in the mean time:

Or maybe I do have a wacky system quirk going on here.

NO, Vidcap doesn't launch anything, how would it??

I have icons on my desktop that start Vidcap.exe.

I create them by Rclicking on Vidcap.exe and selecting Send to Desktop (create icon). When I click that icon Vidcap.exe runs. Vdicap itself has no mechanism for launching Vegas.

If you start Vegas first and select File>Capture>DV it (Vegas) starts Vidcap and Vegas stays loaded. When you quite Vidcap you're back into Vegas. I very rarely do it this way for probably the same reason as you don't.

Since Grazie mentioned build numbers
Vidcap 6 (from v7) = 6.0c build 474
Vidcap 6 (from v8) = 6.0e build 1000

Well, I'm not the lying type, Farss -- in my case, what happens is what happens :) Always did form when I first got Vegas 6. So must be some oddity, indeed.

I've moved the Vidcap.exe in 6 into a separate folder. Should work but I've got a ton of other things to so. Capturing video ain't one of therm right now.

Bottom line: No biggie. Just was puzzled about this "Whud?" oddity in my case. If it persists, I do what I do usually. Shut down Vegas 6.

At some point I'll probably uninstall 6 anyway. I can always re-install it if need be.
