This may be be OT for this fourm.

What I was wondering is how would you go about dong a video in front of a green screen and having the background change during live capture.

The minister of our church would like to do this. I would guess he seen something on TV where the live chots are having different background while video the shot.

Thnaks,
Jeff

What you need is a hardware keyer or a mixer with a keyer.
Such pieces of hardware are available at various prices and with matching quality and features. Datavideo are probably the cheapest to start looking at.
At the top of the pile you get the capability of realtime virtual set tracking and compositing, these are complex systems that need operators and cost accordingly.

Another interesting system is Reflectamedia's reflective curtains and LED lighting system.

Other option to consider is rear or even front projection.

A good place to see and evaluate all this stuff is NAB. None of it is cheap so getting to see all of it and play with it can make the trip worthwhile.

Hey Jerry,

Well, you probably want to do something along the lines of renting a Tricaster or Video Toaster system, if you don't have one already.

Alternatively, you can pretend that someone is going to another room or "into this special room here that we got set up for this green screen thing...", and then just run a video on the screen of someone in front of a green screen like you're talking about, who starts talking about whatever and has stuff showing up behind him.

I'm with Bob on the rear projection. That way, anyone watching the pastor
during the service can see the background and will be pleasant on the eyes.
A lit green screen in my opinion is hard to look at. Not much additional help is
needed. You can use simple colored lights or a video projector.

The Chromatte system is ok to look at except it shows light coming in the direction
of the viewer. Sometimes it looks "shiny" and It costs a small fortune for a wall
curtain. Rosebrand.com sells the material. Also the camera/light ring can't be too
far away.

I want to thank everyone for their advise. I did look at the Datavideo system and it would seem like that is the one I will present to the board for thier consideration. I think it would meet their needs.

Would love to go to NAB but the distance and cost is out of the question at this time. We are still rebuilding from Katrina even after 3 years.
