Can I make a regular dvd in dvda4...and then have a folder on the dvd that has a WMV HD file on it so that when it is put in a computer you can click on the disk drive and open the HD file? If so..how do i go about doing this?
Yes you can. You can also have the HD start playing immediately.
To accomplish it for Windows PCs all you'll need is an autorun text file -- google & you'll find some complete references on how to start wmplayer with the wmv playing. You'll also find some autorun or auto start apps at videohelp.com & doom9.org that vary in complexity but give you more options. Using a reference file (.asx) you can also tailor how wmplayer opens, & how it looks etc.
If you just want to add a content folder, *my* way of doing it is to render the DVD to hdd for testing, add (copy) the add'l folder & content to the DVD folder (the one holding the video_ts & audio_ts), then burn with Nero or Imgburn. In DVDA 4 there's an Extra's Folder you can specify in the project properties.
I didn't know about the Extras Folder, I will try that next.
We just went through a relatively painful process of making a cross-platform ( Windows, Mac OS9 & OSX) DVD-Video with a few paltry PDF files (and Adobe Reader standalone installers for Mac & Windows). We were forced to master the DVD from a Mac under OSX, so that all the folders and icons looked nice for all 3 of our Macintosh customers...
One thing i don't like about the extras folder option in DVDA is that you have to create that folder containing all the files you want on the disc and only those files. You only have the option of specifying a folder name, not the folder's contents.
With Nero you can create the folder on the DVD without actually having that folder existing on your hard drive. You can choose files from anywhere that is accessible to your computer and place them in that folder. They don't have to be in the same folder, much less next to the VIDEO_TS folder.
