video and sound out of synch after render

I'm using VMS 6.
I have a 22 minute clip from which I'm trying to trim the last minute. It looks great in the preview window and, in the timeline, the sound and video are aligned and look perfect. However, once rendered, there is a four second difference between the sound and video. It's fine a the start of the rendered version, but the sound is 4 seconds behind by the end, and the video compensates by running 4 seconds into the part I wanted to trim.

I've tried rendering with the wizard (picking DVD burn as my final goal) and without the wizard, rendering to mpg-2. Same thing.

its a safe bet you didn't capture by firewire. It's also a safe bet you are editing mpeg rather than dv-avi.

the quick and dirty solution for you is to ungroup the sound from the video and shift it based upon known action and sound. It may be as easy as compressing the sound by holding the control button as you left click on the end of the track and slide it to the left "4 seconds".

You may have to split the sound track in several places and do this operation more than once.

Search this forum key word "capture" to find a wealth of info on capture techniques. "Audio sync" may be another good search query.

Thanks. I've thought about compressing the sound file, but I would certainly prefer to have it render the way it previews.

You're right that I'm editing mpeg.
