video + audio fades

it seems like i should know this but here goes..
i know how to create a fade at the end of the last video segment (half-protractor icon) but the fade doesn't include the audio along with it. audio has to be done separately. how do i set the fades of both the video and audio at the same time? thanx..

i know it sounds lazy but if you drag a video segment to the left so that it overlaps the one before it, crossfades are auto'ly created on both the video and audio tracks (if they're grouped which i guess is the default) so you'd think you'd be able to do the same using the protractor.
