Video being squished

Hello, I am using Vegas Pro 21 on a Windows 11 PC and I'm having an issue where I am putting an mp4 video and it's becoming squished once I add it. The video is Height 1920 Width 886, the project size is Height 1920 Width 1080 so I expected it to have black bar on the left and right but for some reason it's adding black bars to the top and bottom, filling the width of the project. Not sure what to do to fix this, any help is appreciated. Thank you.

@michael-l2939 Hi, without going into the reason for the problem have a look at the Pan/Crop option - Maintain Aspect Ratio & see if that fixes it..

PS,

There's right click - Match Out Aspect that might help.

Or - Clicking Lock Aspect Ratio so it isn't highlighted blue, then typing 1080x1920 in the Height & Width, then clicking Lock Aspect Ratio again turning it blue so it locks in that ratio. & then a combination of Maintain aspect ratio & Stretch to fill frame might give you the result you need, It's hard to say exactly without playing with the file itself.. 😉

& even after all that you might have to manually adjust the dotted Pan/Crop box itself

Can you share that file on a file sharing site like Google Drive & then we can test it & give you a better answer?

@michael-l2939 You probably need to go into Preferences, and under the Editing tab, select "Automatically crop Video files added to the timeline".

Thank you Gid, deselecting maintain aspect ratio fixed it.
