are you using any more outputs than you need?
For some reason, Vegas has a harder time outputting the same number
of tracks to multiple outs than it does to mix them
your system is actually better than mine, on account of the scsi, I
use UDMA 66
I can usually get 40 or so tracks, with some fx, many track fx if I
go to one bus

Once I get pretty close, I usually will render a groyup of
instruments, like drums, since MOUSING a mix together SUCKS!!!
(hint to SF, please hurry with harware mixer controller support :) )

i have experienced that autotune takes a lot of cpu and waves c1 and
especially waves rcl take a lot of cpu power(i have PIII500) and
couse stuttering on my machine.
I think of a mixtreme card and duol PIII and win2k or AMD thunderbird
1000 and hope stuttering is lowered.
I think Karl can give us some info about his Killer Machine.

Hi Thomas
My name is Ron,I have a PIII 450 w/128mb,I have the same problem,I
work here at Mac Money Studio I try not to use DX plugins untill I
get into the main room where we have an PIII 800 w/512mb and SCSI
Ultra 160. Man I can run Waves C4,Ren Comp, and Auto Tune.I know for
sure it's the cpu. im updating my system later this month.I know this
doesn't help you, just thought i'd let you know i'm seeing the same
thing.

Thanks for your comments, guys. I have heard about being careful
about multiple busses - is that what you meant, Aaron? And my guess
was the CPU. I'll look into both.

I usually will mix by sending individual tracks out of Vegas
discretely to the souindscape mixtreme, than from there, using My
TASCAM 88/38's as DA convertors
so I need to use as many as 17 busses on a mix for 32 individual
track outs plus bus A for fx returns

every time I add a bus, I can feel the system getting sluggier

also, do anything you can to get the meters off the screen, close the
mixer window, pull another app over it, whatever, it seems to help

The Video Capture tool is available free, as a separate download:
