video capture 5 dropped frames

Hi
I am capturing from the rca out of a sd digital set top box. I capture sevel 3 to 5 min clips with no problem with only around a 15 frame deviation between audio & video & no dropped frames. Only a couple of minutes after capturing the first lot of clip i tried again & ended up with around 397 dropped frames for around the same length clip.
Does anyone know why this happened.
Cheers
Tim

You've given no information about what you're using to capture. Obviously you're capturing analog vs digital, so what is the conversion tool?
There is a HUGE list of causes of dropped frames on the Vegas FAQ page.

Therein alone could lie your problem. I don't know if Pinnacle finally fixed their boxes or not, but early devices were quite problematic. However, there still could be several other reasons. Again, look to the FAQ. DMA, preview window size, resources, net traffic, graphics cards, sound cards, drive being captured to, these all can play a role.
