This is Windows doing its auto-recognize thing...and making
a mistake. No worries- it should work just fine.

thanks but it doesn't work, it says , preview turned off,
AHHHH! I've tried everything i can think of...not thinking
hard enough i guess, do you know?

Set Video Capture to "always preview"- you should see video
while capturing. This was turned off by default for capture
efficiency reasons.

Make sure you are running the latest version of Video
Capture, available on our site.

ok, it won't let me change the always preview settings so i
don't know if its set on always preview or not.On the
bottom of the screen it says No Capture Device, No device
control so don't know whats up there.I'm using a Sony Vaio
Laptop with a ilink port, could this be why? I'm using a 4
to 4 pin firewire cable to connect them. I'm clueless. What
can i do?

Most Sony Vaios require that you install our sony.exe
utility, available here:

You may want to try and remove the device from the device manager and then have Windows locate the device and the reload the MSDV.sys drivers. Do a search for the msdv.inf file on your system and once you find it note the location prior to removing the device from the device manger. Once you have removed the IEEE 1394 host bus controller from the device manager and reboot windows should find the device. When it asks for the driver click have disk and point it to the msdv.inf file. Then try and launch Vidcap and see if you can choose Microsoft DV camera and VCR from the Video menu. Also prior to doing all of this you may want to make sure that there is not anything listed in add/ remove programs for your capture card. If there is uninstall it and then try the above mentioned suggestions.
