Video Capture and Recapture

A couple quick questions -

1. If Video Capture has created a series of 3 files ex. file001.avi, file002.avi and file003.avi from a 45 minute tape, can I delete just file003.avi and trust that on recapture Vegas will correctly recap. down to the frame? Should I recapture ALL of 001-003? I have never tried this, but I need to clear up just a little space and if I can, I don't want to have to recap all 45 minutes.

2. When using Simple capture if I name a Clip "D2" and just let the tape roll I get a series of clips, "D2 001, D2 002 and so on. But when I use Advanced Capture I initially name the clip "D2 001" only to find that all subsequent clips are named Clip 2, Clip 3 and so on. So then I have to rename all the clips. I've looked around for preferences and just can't find anything about maintaining the base name of a clip. What am I doing wrong? Thanks.

I doubt that the recapture would be accurate to the frame. The camera's mechanism won't repeat accurately enough, and if you're using the standard capture modes then there is no usable record of the timecodes from the tape. The best thing to do would be to manually recapture the 3rd section, but make sure you start the capture a second or two early, then manually trim the extra material.

For DV, it will recapture it accurate to the frame. The camera's mechanism accuracy isn't an issue, as it's just asked to seek to a section before the one you want, and play. SF VidCap waits for the correct first frame, and starts capturing.

That should be the case, to clarify, I think chewbonkay is asking will the first frame of the 3rd file be correct if the user were to recapture the whole thing, after deleting only the 3rd file.

Since you're using a FAT32 file system, you're hitting the FAT32 limit of 4GB at around 18 minute intervals.
