Video Capture, Canon HV20 Camera to Vegas 5

First post to a Forum - please be kind!
Currently using Vegas 5 for editing Standard Def. video captured via firewire from an SD Sony camera. Very stable, no problems.
Based on the 2007 rave reviews, I'm considering buying a Canon HV20 HDV tape camcorder (PAL system, Australia) as a first step toward eventually fully converting to High Def (higher spec'd PC, latest Vegas etc), when the Blue Ray/HDDVD etc debate is better sorted.
Have been advised that the HV 20 can export in Standard Def via firewire, tape that 's been recorded on it in HD, but that there might be problems with capturing it in Vegas 5.
Any advice or experience with this?

You can possibly capture in SD, but why would you get the HV20 for SD? That doesn't make sense. You'd probably want to upgrade Vegas so that you can capture and edit HDV.
