USB capture isn't ready for prime time. Is your camcorder a DV model? If so, get a firewire card (about $20) for the computer and a firewire cable (about $10) to connect them. This way you'll get true digital transfers for the best possible quality. If your source is analog then you should still look at firewire capture through an external A/V->DV converter like the Canopus ADVC-100 (about $250). Resist the urge to go cheap with USB!

Thanks for the info. I guess I didnt get into detail of my needs, sorry. I use a sony DV camera and use the Firewire for that. I was thinking about converting old family VHS's to DVD's. Thanks for the help.

There are a bunch of products out there that will allow you to do the conversion---If your camera has pass-thru, then you can do it with that. If not, check out the Canopus analog to digital products.
