Video Capture - Communication Issues

I have not done a set up like I am attempting in years but I was hoping someone out there could help me because I remember the Vegas Forum used to be very helpful when I was more active. I'm trying to capture video from my VCR to Vegas. I am still using Vegas Pro 10 because my computer is running XP. I know, I know. Very outdated I am. Anyway I am using a Sony TRV18 camera as an interface and the video and audio from the VCR plays on the camera but only when the computer is not engaged. Once I connect to the computer from the camera to my FireWire CardBus (like I always have done) the video and audio no longer play on the camera. I open the "Capture Video" window and it's a black screen. When I connect the FireWire an icon immediately comes up "Microsoft Camera & VCR" and that leads me to believe that I have properly connected the interface to the computer but why does the Source Device say "Microsoft" as opposed to "Sony TRV-018"? I can't remember if it used to say one or the other but that's what I have today. After Source Device: "Microsoft Camera & VCR" it has Source: "720x480", Display: "811x594" & Available Time: "13:44.21.01 (C)". When I click "Capture Video" the counter does not start running and when I click "Stop" I get the message "No Video Captured". Can anyone go back in time with me a few years to help diagnose what I may have forgotten in the last ten years or so. I'll keep checking this Forum >personal information removed for security reasons<. Thanks.

Furthermore, I tested my connection from camera to computer and that is working. I was able to take photos both manually and clicking "take photo" on the computer so that is talking for sure. And the TRV18 must be the device recognized in the Capture Video window but again, the video from VCR to camera plays fine but when I engage the computer in anyway I no longer see the video playing on the camera monitor nor do I see it on the Vegas monitor and even though I click "Capture Video" nothing happens. Shoot.

Thank you Johnny S. Reading those related discussions from the way back machine prompted me to check the DV setup on the TRV-18 and sure enough it was "Off". I changed that to "On" and it is working. I wish someone out there had an idea how to fix a TRV-18. It still takes pictures fine. It acts as an interface fine but doesn't eject those dang Mini-DV tapes. I have about 100 of those tapes I'd sure like to digitize but the camera won't play them. I've never seen a Mini-DV tape player have you? If you know anyone that can fix a TRV-18 or where I could find a tapedeck that plays Mini-DV tapes, please let me know. And thanks again for the trip in the way back machine.

Try Ebay for any DV camcorder that does pass through. Or witjh or without passthrough if you only need to digitise DV tapes
