Video Capture Freezes every time I open a file!

I have been fighting with my computer all day today. For some reason, VidCap will freeze as soon as I open a file to print to tape. Practically freezes my whole system. I cannot shut down properly either. Any suggestions?

* Anyone know of a different wat to print to tape other than Video Capture?

I hear ya. I've had trouble with 2.5 and 3.0. They seem to lock my system if I stop a file in the middle of playing it, then try to do something else right away.

Hmm...

so you wouldnt have a remedy huh?

I'm still waiting on a response from SF E-mail tech support. If I get any useful info, I'll post it here for you to read and hopefully resolve your problem.

OK, DOES THAT STILL APPLY TO VV 2?

Just for kicks, i've tried some experiments. While doing a DV capture, i
also had browser windows open actively surfing the web and chatting, an
mp3 player (SIREN, in fact) playing in the background, and a game of
minesweeper going. I still captured 115 minutes with zero dropped
frames. Does this seem unusual? Or do i just have an unusually stable
system?

PIII, 866MHz, 133MHz bus, 256MB RAM, ATA/100 drives.

One thing i did discover though, i had to open up the other applications
BEFORE starting the capture. If i open any window during the capture
then i'm sure to lose a frame or two.

OK, I got all that now. But another question now arrises. I cannot click on the print to tape button on the vidcap screen. It is gray, no way to get around this. I tried to switch between my IEEE 1394 and my Video card to see if it comes up. NOPE! Any Ideas on this scenario?

I've also discovered when using the Sony DVMC box that i have to set
"Enable DV Device Control" to off in preferences. You might want to try
this with your camera just in case it isn't completely compatable. You'll
sacrifice the transport control from VidCap, but it's better to be able to
send the signal without them than not to be able to send at all.
