Video capture issues. Sees the video in preview but no file created

I haven't used Sony Vegas Video in a long, long time, but I recently had to retrieve some video footage from an old Sony camcorder via composite or RCA plugs. It seems the device and I am able to get the video as it's showing up in the preview window. But when I press record, the counter does not count up. And when I stop the recording, it tells me no file was recorded. I'm guessing it's something stupid on my part ... one of my file save setting or something? Anyone can be of assistance on this.
I'm using Vegas Video 11 .
Windows 7 64 bit
I'm importing the video via a cheap USB dongle (V500 or something).

Best regards,

William

Vegas will only capture from a Firewire device. No USB devices.

So.. even though it sees the video (as I can preview it), it will not record?
This is strange because I do not have a firewire devise, never have. and I distinctly remember capture video into Vegas Video

Will using something like Pinnacle Movie Box solve the issue?

You use a Pinnacle Box to capture, but you have to use the Pinnacle capture software. After you capture it you can use Vegas to edit. Or use the software that came with the USB dongle you were talking about. The video can be edited in Vegas, but Vegas will only capture from firewire.
