video capture problem

"Screenblast Video Capture has detected that it has not shut down properly. Would you like to load the previous project?" I just bought Screenblast 3.0. Had some trouble with sound while capturing, then I couldn't capture at all. The above message comes us. No matter whether I choose "Yes" or "No" the hour glass stays, nothing can be done, program will not close. I have shut down my computer several times, uninstalled and installed Screenblast several times. Still no luck. I went through the questions/answers posted down through one similar question posted on 3/13/2002. The last response was from Simon Wimpenny that he would send an e-mail to the questioner telling him how to solve that problem. I sent an e-mail to Simon but so far no response. Can anyone help me? Thanks in advance. Martha

Try uninstalling again. But, before you re-install, run RegCleaner to get rid of any stray registry settings. (There's an automatic setting that does a pretty thorough cleaning, and I've used it for years without any problems, despite the disclaimers.)

Also, if you have other video editing or capture software installed on your machine, don't use it -- at least until you're sure Screenblast is working okay.

Finally, are we safe in assuming you're using Windows XP (or at least an OS no older than 98SE)?

And are you capturing digital video through firewire? If not, there are other considerations that must be made.

Thanks for your response. I found a free 30 day trial download of Mechanic 4 and used it but that didn't solve the problem. This time Screenblast didn't ask me if I wanted to load previous projects, so perhaps Mechanic 4 did clean up that problem, either to caputure or to close down. The hour glass was there again and I could not continue. When using Contol-Alt-Delete to try to shut down the computer's comment was "You chose to end the non responsive SbVidCap30.exe. Is Mechanic 4 not equal to RegCleaner? Screenblast is the only program I have put on my computer that has behaved in this manner.

Yes, I am using Windows XP and I am caputring digital video through firewire.

Do you have the camera attached? This one's from last July: he solved his own problem by quitting video capture, turning his camera on, and restarting vidcap. Ignore Mikkie's answer, he seems to be trying to fix general problems with ATI cards.

Susan, you mentioned "quiting video capture." That is one of the problems. I cannot "quit video capture." I used Control-Alt-Delete but I cannot "end task." An hour-glass remains and I cannot do anything but improperly turn off my computer. I accessed Soundblast both with my camera on and with my camera off. The message which I mentioned in my first post re: program was not shut down properly still comes up. No matter what I anwer to the question "Yes" or "No" regarding bringing back previous captures the hour-glass comes on and stays and I cannot do anything but improperly exit my computer by simply turning it off. I uninstalled Mechanic 4 because it had not solved this problem. I tried to pull up the message that you suggested "This one's from July "by typing in what was below your name. That only sent me bak to the first page of the screenlast suport forum. How can I search for questions that are years back? It seems one can only search for questions 30 days back. I am an newbie so all of this is quite frustrating for me. Is there no human being that I can actually talk to? Martha Since posting the above I have gone through relevant questions up to 12/127/03 and tried all the suggestions made. Once I press that "capture video" button the hourglass comes up and I cannot go to Options or do anything but close down my computer by simply turning it off. A lot of this can't be good for the computer, no? Should I upgrade from 3.0 to 3.0a and/or b? Would that solve the problem? Martha

Sorry about the link--I grabbed the wrong url. This shoud be correct

I misunderstood your problem. Definitely get the latest update 3.0b.
I may be way off and this may seem odd, but when things freeze on me, I immediately suspect Video Hardware Acceleration. From the Control Panel, open Display to bring up display properties and open the Settings tab. Advanced Settings, troubleshooting tab has Hardware Acceleration. Try moving this down a notch.
