Video capture problem

Our Vegas 4 has been inoperative now for two weeks because we can't capture video. We are capturing via firewire from a DV camera, when we hit "Capture" it starts and runs for 4 secs then the program freezes up and there is no captured clip. It has worked just fine for two years before this.

We have spent days going thru all the preferences and defaulted them several times but to no avail except that sometimes it runs for 3 secs and sometimes for 6 but never captures and always freezes. Can someone please help?

We are on XP

Did you recently upgrade to SP2?

I'm not quite sure what SP2 is but no, we haven't recently upgraded anything

Are you running version 4.0e?
Have you tried a repair install?
How about a full uninstall-reinstall?

Windows XP now has a Service Pack called SP2. IF you have AUTO update enabled for XP, then it may have updated to SP@.

SP2 has a patch for Firewire Capture problems.

If you have an extra handy, It never hurts to try a different firewire cable. Your regular one may have a short in it.

Thanks for all the suggestions. In the end a complete re-installation seems to have fixed the problem.
