Video Capture Problem!

I'm having a problem trying to capture video from my Sony Handycam to Vegas Movie Studio 6. I keep getting this error message;

"The device 'Hauppauge WinTV PVR PCI II Capture' could not be opened"

I've search the knowledge database completed Answer ID 951. I also found Answer ID 436, but both files they say to delete in the given options are not even on my computer to delete. I was wonder if anyone else has had this problem, and how you solved it?

Thank You,
Alex

The WinTV cards are dicky at best. Back when i was using one, many times i had to uninstall all the Hauppauge drivers (fortunately they include a function to do this for you), remove the card, put it back in a different slot, then reinstall the drivers. The card would then work fine for another week or so. Then i'd have to do it all over again.

Chienworks- my father is experiencing the EXACT same problem. As a work-around he used Windows Movie Maker to capture his video, but would prefer to do it with Movie Studion Platinum. What are some options that he may consider so he is able to capture using Movie Studio?

The best option is not to use the Hauppauge card. Do a search on this forum for "canopus advc" and you'll find much discussion on this capture device. It's an external box with analog a/v inputs and outputs. It also has a firewire port that connects to your computer. Using this box you can capture from any analog source as if it was a DV camcorder or deck.

The ADVC 110 is a good entry level model that can usually be had for $200 or so. The ADVC 300 is a nice step up at around $400 or less and includes a Time Base Corrector which can fix many problems with analog video tapes and provide a clearer and much more stable image.

Other than that, keeping on doing what he's doing is probably his best option if he continues capturing with the Hauppauge card.
