Video capture problem

Lili wrote on 7/30/2006, 10:23 AM
Does anyone know what to do if this message appears right after I click on "capture video":

"An error occurred while capturing from the device. The reason for the error could not be determined." When I click on "Details" it reads, "No combination of intermediate filters could be found to make the connection."

I make sure I'm connected to the right device but it changes nothing. Most of the time I have no problems with capturing at all (V5), but every dozen or so videos, this happens and then i shut everything down, reboot, change cameras, etc. etc., until eventually it all works again, but it would be easier and less frustrating to know what the cause and exact fix is so that I don't need to go through all the hit and miss trials.
Thanks for any help.

Have you tried new/different cable(s)? Worth a shot. The "intermediate filters" part is very strange, though.

I have never had to use different cables to get it to work again, so I don't think that would make a difference.

This time I got it to work again by clicking on the "Video" tab in the capture mode and choosing the capture device (camera) that was NOT connected to! (I have 2 cameras listed there).

So, next time I get that message, I'll try the same thing to see if it works, or if it was just a coincidence.

thanks for your suggestion.

I could be wrong (wouldn't be the first time!), but it sounds like a few possibilites could be:

1) a driver conflict between multiple drivers
2) something is botched in the Windows registry so that it gets confused about which device is which.

One possible thing to try would be to connect both devices (not at the same time!), and delete them from the device manager and reboot. Next time you plug in one of the devices the plug-and-play should autodiscover the "new hardware". But this approach might not help if #1 above is the case.
