Video Capture Quality

Hi all,

New to the forum but not to Vegas.

I'm wondering what alternatives there might be to enhance the quality of the video captured using the video capture utility bundeled with Vegas. The source being digi beta analog out into a new Pinnacle DV-1394 box.

I'm told the new Windows Media 9 video compression is really much better than the AVI. Is it possible to capture straight to that format or does it even matter? I could use some enlighenment on the topic.

Best regards,
Chris

It's best to capture as a AVI and then render to whatever format you need. I have heard and have had good experience with the new Windows Media 9 codec and the Windows Media encoder. It seems to be one of the fastest compression tools out today and will give you really good looking video. it all depends on what you plan to do with the video in the end, then we can probably give you a more definative answer on what format to render to.
If you plan to do a lot of Digi Beta conversion you might want to look into the Canopus ADVC-500 which will take Component Video in. That will give you a better video transfer than standard composite or s-video.
