when I try to capture video with sony vegas movie studio 8, i get a message that the device hauppage win tv 885 video capture could not be opened. When I capture video with Roxio software, this capture device opens and captures video without any problem. Does anyone know if this video device is compatible with Sony vegas ms 8 or not ?

Another question I had was with vegas ms 8 i tried to burn a project with a fuji DVD+rw disc and I get a message stating the device has received an illegal command and wont continue the burn, yet when i burn the same project with other brands of DVD-RW it burns without any problem. My pc does handle all types of dvd media and more than exceeds the system requirements of sony vegas movie studio 8

any help that you can supply would be greatly appreciated.... thanks

In short - no. Roxio is taking the signal and compressing into mpeg no doubt You can take that file and drop it into VMS and work with it - although it may be troublesome with sync issues betweeen the sound and video - depending on what you do.

The best way to get video into VMS from a tv is to feed your analog signal through a converter - like the ADVC 50,110, 300 or something along those lines - that simply converts analog to digital - using the firewire. You will have less sync issues with this method. DV-avi for standard definition is the mothers milk of VMS and will work well. Hi def stuff actually uses different forms of mpeg - a whole different set of issues there - someone else can help you with that.

your dvd issue sounds like your burner simply cant handle that format - check the specs. ( I am assuming you used a + and a - to distinguish two formats and not simply brand X+rw, brand Y-rw)

good luck with it

Open up your properties in hauppage win tv 885 and be sure they are set to capture in AVi. If not select this as your default. The next time you select the capture device in sony you should be OK.

I had a similar problem until I change the capture properties in my capture card. Hope this may help. One more thing , your capture card must support avi.

thanks very much. appreciate the info. My only problem now is trying to find out how to turn the avi capture on. Can't find it in properties of the hauppage win tv.
