Video Capture Sound / Cracklin-Static Sound

Hi everyone,

First time post although bought Sony Vegas over 2 years ago and just now really starting to use the software.

I'm NOT new to audio and mixing but video is somewhat new to me and been using PC for many years although far from a techie that's for sure.

Issue I'm having is when I capture from my Canon ZR800 A digital mini DV I get a cracklin or static sound on the capture.

I've verified this is NOT present in the original as I've tested and tried several tapes as well. It happens intermittently on capture and NOT all the time.

With patience I AM able to capture with little and sometimes even NO cracklin or static sound.

Seems if I let maybe 30 or more seconds play BEFORE what I actually want to capture I can get a decent capture sometimes not always.

I'm hoping someone can guide me as to what settings may help me having to do this as I have many hours of footage on several tapes I need to capture.

FYI I'm also running Sony Vegas 8.0c which I guess is the latest version of the software I can run. I see there's a version 9 but not sure if my license allows me to update to that version.

My profile should also show my system info if this will help.

Thank you I really appreciate any help as the sound is very annoying and takes precious time trying to rid of it when capturing.

James

Install the latest version of Movie Studio, *and* the latest driver version of your sound card, and retry. Make sure your XP is on its latest version as well. Also, make sure you have at least 512 MBs of RAM on your PC for SD footage, but if your XP is a very old installation, it might have acquired craft, in which case upgrade to 1 GB at least.
