Video capture with Dazzle DVC100

When I try to capture ( In Sony Vegas 11.0 Movie Studio) a VHS video from a video recorder using the Dazzle DVC11 video capture software I get the message that Dazzle DVC 100 could not be opened The Pinnacle program was not in use at the time and no other program was open that could be using the capture software.
What am I missing?
Thanks,
Pat Thompson

It's quite possible that the Dazzle unit is deliberately limited to work with only the Pinnacle software that came with it. It may not allow use by any other software. Vegas' capture utility is also fussy about only capturing from firewire devices and doesn't like to talk to USB devices.

Can you capture successfully with the Pinnacle software? If so, do that and save the files. You can then open and edit the resulting files in Vegas.

I'd also suggest you look for almost anything besides the Dazzle. Historically Dazzle devices have been some of the most absolutely awful pieces of hardware ever made.

This is one of those devices that captures and converts to MPEG-2 on the fly. Not at all what Vegas capture is designed to do. Use the supplied software, or look at a firewire solution like an AVDC or even an older Canon MiniDV with A->D passthrough.

Thanks Chienwork,
Thanks for your response.
Yes, the video capture with Dazzle DVC 100 works in Pinnacle 12 and in Serif Movie plus X6. So I have two other options for capturing the analogue video. I was just hoping that it worked with Sony Vegas Platinum 11.0,so I wouldn't have to use the extra step to capture the video footage in one program and then transfer it to another for editing. :)

Thanks for your response,musicvid.
Thankfully, I have two other options for capturing the analogue video footage. Just thought I would see if anyone had made the Dazzle capture device work with Sony Vegas Platinum 11. Hoping to save a step between capturing and editing.

Well, technically Vegas' VidCap utility is a separate program too. Also, there's not really a transfer involved. After you capture the files are on your hard drive and you simply use the files in Vegas as if you had captured them in Vegas.
