Could be you're trying to connect without a tape in the camera.

If this is a new problem, then it's a Windows/codec/driver problem. How old is that Video Factory app? If it's too old, it's possible that newer XP versions have drivers that create problems to very old apps.

It's a real possibility that the connector is the problem, not the program. Happened to me with a scanner.

Is VideoFactory having a hard time detecting the camera, or is it Windows? If Windows sees it but VF doesn't then it may be a VF issue.

Otherwise you should focus on the cable and/or the connectors, and/or your interfaces (is it FireWire or USB?). If FireWire you should be careful about the order of plugging in and powering on the devices - you will find several reports online about blown FireWire ports. Good luck.

I have installed Windows XP latest driver. The computer recognizes the camera. As a matter of fact, I have Windows Movie Maker and it works fine- downloads every time I try it and no splintering of the clips like VF does. My 1394 card is OK. Things went bad when I installed Windows XP Service Pack 2. I'm getting fed up with VF!!!!!!
