With the DV codec in particular, with type 'dvsd', it's likely to pick up any codec that's installed on the machine, and since the Vegas DV codec is private to Vegas, it's certainly not going to list that one. Let me guess, is this on a Sony PC? It's the same reason my Sony VAIO at home lists the AVI video from my Canon camera as using the "Sony M-JPEG codec".

Well, somewhere along the line you installed software made by Sony or containing Sony codecs if your system says "Sony Digital Video". It wasn't Vegas, if that's what your thinking.

many DV cameras use a sony codec to write the datastream to tape. the header info from that codec stays with the avi file until you re-render it, somewhere
