Video compression

Editguy43 wrote on 10/8/2009, 10:49 PM
I am using Vegas 8c and noticed that it does not create .flv files I need to create videos for the web and need some kind of compression software, of I need to know how to do it right in Vegas. I have never done this before, as I have never needed to. I am trying my hand at making real estate videos for some Xtra income. Can anyone help, also what i a good Free or inexpensive compression that i could use if I need one.

For flv I use the Flix Pro encoder from on2, now owned by Google. That might not help you much though as it's not that cheap. It has paid for itself though.

I believe there is a way to create a flv container with H.264 using free software however you'll have to search out the details. From what I recall it involved quite a few steps which might make going down that path viable if you only need to do this a few times. On the other hand if you're planning to make this part of your business investing in a commercial tool would be money well spent.

render to mp4 in vegas (main concept). use mp4 faststart to make it play immediately and the JW Player imbedded in an html page.

see this thread and disregard the cineform part.

There is a free tool called super that converts to almost anything.

The interface is a bit strange, though.

Super creates h.263 FLV files.
Since the new players now take h.264 directly, that is the cleaner alternative.

Super now has h.264 conversion. Are you saying that if you render to FLV, it won't use this h.264 codec?

I'll download the new version of Super to be sure that I didn't give you an outdated response. My older version of Super creates FLV1 files that don't support H264.

UPDATE: I stand sooooo corrected. The latest version of Super does list H264 as a FLV encoder. Running a test file through now. Looks like a good reason to start using it again.
