Video Effects

Hello,

I have vegas 6 and was looking for an effect that would allow a person to look as if they were doubled. Similar to a trail/fan effect when they move. The "Matrix" movie best illustrates this effect. I'm also interested in some cool third party video effects. I looked on the web and couldn't find much.

Thanks,
tdsilk

Do a search here for something about a "cat." I can't recall the thread, but there is one here that shows how to put multiple versions of a character on screen. Maybe someone can be more direct with an answer, but this might get you started.

After posting I found info. on Pixelan SpiceMaster 2 for Vegas Video. I think this will do what I'm looking for?

Maybe. I don't know SpiceMaster like I should. I know the cats were done with the masking tool, though.
Also, there was a vid done a while ago that had one guy tussling (um... fighting) with himself. It was pretty interesting and well beyond what I know how to do. Maybe someone remembers that one too?

Actually you want Pixelan SpiceFILTERS and yes they will do what you want. I have them and they work great in Vegas. Download the demo and try the StepMotion FX. This will make trails.

BTW, SpiceMASTER 2 is great too. I bought them both as a combo.

Here's the link to the "Cat Demo."

Cat Demo

This shows how to have the same cat appear in the same scene twice without using a green screen, and without any fancy tricks. Done entirely in post. Requires excellent control over scene lighting, and also a stable tripod. I would recommend using the camera's remote control to start/stop the camera during the shoot to make sure you don't get any movement.

I vote for the Spicefilters/Spicemaster too for this. Great tools.

Wish Vegas had more like this.

Nothing in the Spice lineup will let you do what's done in the Two Cats. That uses difference masks which is a fairly complex bit of compositing. Careful planning of the actual shoot is vital to getting this to work though.
You can get some interesting FXs using Motion Blur in Vegas, change the default type to asymetric.
The Bullet Time FX in the Matrix series again was done during the shoot, there's no way to do this in post. The bonus material explains very well how it was done.
