Video Effects: How to add them to a track?

jrazz wrote on 6/10/2005, 8:39 PM
I want to know how to add a single effect to every clip in my track at once. I also want to know how to delete the effect from every single clip without having to go through each one and manually remove them.

Thanks for the help. I am sure that this is simple and I am just missing it.

One more thing, What effect will make the video jump as if it was an old movie on a reel to reel? I am making a picture slide show with pictures from the 30's and I would like to add that effect. Also, if you know of a good setting for the effect, give me the details. Thanks guys.

First, to add an effect or effects to all images on a track, you can:
1. Drag the desired effect to the track header
or
2. Click the FX button on the track header and select the effect.

If you drag, hold the Shift key to prevent the FX dialog from opening if you are just using a preset.

To delete an effect from every single clip that's had an effect applied to it, you'll either need to manually delete each clip's FX, or use a script. There are free and paid scripts that can accomplish this. Adding FX to a track does not apply the FX to the clips, it merely affects how the clips appear. So, if you apply FX to the track, all clips/events on that track will display the effect, but when you remove that effect from the track, no clips/events will display the effect.

For the oldfilm look, try the Film FX for the 1908 film. You may find it does what you want.

There has to be a way to add one effect to the entire track and, on the flipside, a way to delete them from the entire track using something like select all or grouping them or something right? If Vegas doesn't have a feature like this I am curious as to why I couldn't find a thread on it before now, that is why I am sure that I am just missing it.

I just explained how to do this.
In Vegas, you can apply FX at essentially 3 places, 4 if you count the project media window.

To apply effects to every event on a track, you apply an effect at the track level. This will affect every event on the selected track.
If you remove it, it will delete the effect from the entire track.

Maybe I am doing something wrong, but I cannot get the plugin to show up on the final output. Spot, I know that you explained it and I tried what you wrote, but maybe I just have a bug or something. I am currently upgrading to 6.0b. I will see if that will allow me to add the effect.

Now we're getting more information. :-)
You could possibly have Bypass FX selected, or you've got a pre/post view selected that is taking the whole screen.
Look in your preview window and see if there are any buttons selected.

I did not change any settings but I did install 6.0b and now it works just fine, I am still having problems with printing to tape, but thanks for the input.

5.0d worked just fine, I just couldn't get the effect to take hold on the track. I just though t that I was missing something, but once I upgraded, it worked just fine.
