Video event pan/crop

Using Vegas6
I want to pan across a text insert or otherwize present text. However when faced with the dialog one gets at `video event pan/crop' , I'm at a complete loss as to how to do anything with this dialog.... The section found in help file by searching `pan/crop' is equally confusing with no examples I can see.

Where can I get a walk thru about using the pan/crop dialog?

Pan across Text? Did you create the text using the media generator? If so... then you don't modify the position of the text using Pan/Crop... you would probably want to do that using the Position Tab in the media FX and use keyframes there.

If you really do want to figuyre out Pan/Crop (for other things) then you might find the little bit of video samples from the Sony Seminar Series of some use.

I'm replying here as I work on the posted suggestions so I still lack even a basic iidea of using Vegas.

That said; What I wanted to do was pan across some text. Really a very basic title introduction to a video. Something like this::

My Title of an
Amatuer video

And have the text crawl across or be panned from left to right.

1. Insert some text (Insert -> Text Media).

2. Use the "Placement" tab in the Video Event fX for the text event to place the text where you want it at the beginning of the event.

3. In the Video Event fX dialog, look at the bottom of the dialog and note that there is a timeline, with the header (at the far left) labled "Text." Click at the end of this timeline (which places the cursor at this position)

4. Go to the "Placement" tab again, and make sure Text Placement is set to Free Form. Then, click and drag the text in the little window just below where it now says "Free Form" this will move the text in the display to the same position.

Vegas will automatically create a linear move, for every frame, between the placement in the first frame of the event and the placement at the last frame.
