Video Factory

I am hoping someone out there can help me. At the moment, I
am the not so proud owner of video editing software called
Dazzle, which uses Ulead Photo Studio. I am totally
disgusted with that and am trying to find a replacement. I
am very curious about VideoFactory. Is it somewhat user
friendly? I have a Sony TRV-320 and only want to take the
movies of my kids and put them on CD's for the
grandparents, I am not looking for fancy stuff here. Any
input you could give me, I would appreciate.

Laurie,

You and me are in the same boat. I have the Dazzle board
and the ULEAD software... it was OKAY, but I wanted
something better. So, I actually got the Video Studio. I
also have the TRV-320 camera.

The only issue I have is that there seems to be some
problem with the Video Capture portion of the software.
Currently I am using the ULEAD stuff to capture the videos,
then bringing them into Video Studio to edit.

The learning curve of the Video Studio is a bit more than
the ULEAD program. That is because it can do a lot more.
The on screen text is MUCH better than the ULEAD stuff, the
scene transistions are much better, all the video FX are
much better. But, it is a bit harder to use.

Another thing I have a complaint about, is that it splits
the audio from the video clip. That might not sound so
bad, but when adding or deleting video and audio, it can
get out of wack.... not snyced up.

My suggestion would depend on what you want. If you want
the better effects, and the ability to split scenes, and
the better audio editing, I would go with the Video Factory
software, and hope they fix some of the Video Capture
bugs... if you want something that is REALLY REALLY easy,
and doesn't do much, stick with the ULEAD stuff. Also,
having both on my machine, they can compliment each other
(right now I capture from ULEAD, edit in video factory,
then bring it back into ULEAD to export in VCD format or
back to tape...)

HTH,

Brad

Hi Laurie...yes, VF and its associated Video Capture
application work great with the TRV 320 (I'll used this
combination before). Basically you'd capture your footage
via Video Capture and and then bring those files into
VideoFactory. Then you could render these files into a much
less hard disk intense format like MPEG or something and
then you'd have to use another application to do the data
burn of the rendered file onto your CD burner. The main
thing you need to be aware of is how big DV files are and
what the file system limits are. Win98SE and WinMe running
on a FAT32 file system have a 4GB limit, while Win2000
running on a NTFS file system is only limited by the size
of your hard disk's free space. That said, captured DV
files hit the 4GB mark at around 18 minutes so capturing a
full 60 minute tape takes roughly 13.5 GB. In addition a
writable CD only has about 650 MB of space on it...so
you'll may have to edit and cut unimportant spots and
compress it to fit on a CD.

Good Luck!!

Hi Brad and Laurie...as for the problems with the video
capture portion of the software, we work very closely with
our customers to solve their capture/print to tape issues.
Very very often, it has to do with the specific OS system,
hardware, drivers, and other installed software that the
system is using, making each problem case unique.

Please try using one of the stock render templates- seems
like you might have some of the custom render settings set
incorrectly. If you still see problems, please list your
most common source material specs (size, frame rate, fps,
codec) project settings, and render settings. Thanks-
