Video Factory and DC10plus

I am completely new to VideoFactory, and an old Studio 8 user, with that said, has anyone had any problems using there DC10plus capture card with VideoFactory? I have tried to capture several times with no luck, I am receiving the following error messages after I click the stop button.
"An error occurred while capturing fro the device"
"An error occurred while opening a codec"
All had appeared to be working just fine, I can see the video in the preview window but it doesn't appear to capture anything. Any one with any idea's. I am using the Demo version at this point if that matters.
Thanks
Bud

Your DC10+ card has hardware MJPEG compression. This means the card compresses video for you, taking the burden off your CPU. However, you have to use Pinnacle's (formerly Miro's) MJPEG codec.

I've seen the DC10+ fail to work with 3rd party capture programs before. In fact, this seems like a systemic problem with Pinnacle products. For example, early Pinnacle firewire boards had crappy compatability. So, the first place I would start is with new drivers. Check out http://www.pinnaclesys.com

Second, I would check your configuration. Try either using Pinnacle's MJPEG codec or not using it (Hey, whatever works right).

Pinnacle hardware is usually proprietary and only works with their software. They forget to mention this on the box. Some of us have made repeated requests to them to make Windows drivers that other applications could use but they seem uninterested and unwilling to provide them. I would never buy Pinnacle hardware again and if I had to do it over, I would get a box from Canopus. I think you may have to capture and print to tape using Studio but you should be able to do all your editing in VideoFactory.

OK, let's try some troubleshooting steps.

I pretty sure the DC-10+ *can* work with 3rd party apps. I used it with Adobe Premiere years ago (back when it was know as a Miro Video DC-10). Plus, the Zoran chipset at the heart of the DC-10+ has been used with other products such as Matrox's Rainbow Runner stuff and Iomega's ill-fated Buz. Yes, Pinnacle has a bad rep, but their usual MO is to release a proprietary driver -> everyone complains -> crappy universal driver.

First thing to do is download AMcap. This is Microsoft's "example" capture program. If it doesn't work with AMcap, it's not DirectShow compliant if you know what I mean.
ftp://ftp.pinnaclesys.de/driver/pc/extras/amcap.exe

Try it and let me know if it works.
