Can anyone tell my why this has happened to my files? What does it mean?

This happened after you did - what?
The MPEG file is the original video file.
The SFK-File is the corresponding peak file for waveform information used in Movie Studio, DVD Architect or Vegas Pro.
The VOB files are files generated from the original file to fullfil DVD requirements.
Nothing wrong there.

On another note. I have Playmemories on my computer. When I view the same folder from that program, I only see mpeg files.Why?
Is that the best program to use to preview my videos on the pc?

Playmemories only read the Sony Camcorder's supported format, like MPG, M2TS, MP4, etc.
VOB is a standard DVD Format, so it won't be supported.
