video format question for scoring

This is a question for those doing music scoring for film / TV.

In what format do you generally receive the video of the film or show that you are scoring - VHS, DVD, MiniDV, etc? Is there now a standard that everyone, for the most part, uses, or does it vary from client to client?

If you receive a VHS, what hardware do you use to do the A to D conversion to get it into your hard drive? Capture device of camcorder?

If you receive a DVD, do you copy the film or show to your hard drive?

What DVD burner do you recommend? Any thoughts on Sony's new dual layer DVD drive - is it worth getting one now, or better to wait on that?

Thanks,

RML

Usually, in the past, it's been on VHS with time code visible.

I've not received a VHS for a score for many years, but I'm sure that others use it still....
We usually get DV Cam, Beta SP, and lately, a few DV mini's. But we also have had scenes sent to us on HD, DVD, and in one case, a wmv file with a T/C window burned in, dialog on one channel, and effects on another.
All told, DVCam and DV mini are the most common for our house.
