Yes its likely due to some sound software clashing with Vegas. It is a known issue, if you search the forum it will tell which it is. you will need to uninstall it.

Found it - the Nahimic Service

For anybody who comes across this post in the future ...

There are 2 ways to stop the Nahimic effect:

1. Go into Vegas Pro's internal preferences (hold the shift key while clicking the options menu, select "Internal" OR if an older Vegas Pro version, open the Options window, hold the shift key while clicking on Preferences, and then click on the Internal tab), type "GPU" in the search field and set the "GPU acceleration for Window Presentation Foundation" listing to "FALSE", then click Apply and OK to exit the Internal window.

OR ...

2. To disable Nahimic via the Task Manager, R click NahimicService in the Services window and then select Open Services. A new window opens. R click Nahimic service and click on Properties in the window that opens. In the context box that then opens, select Disabled in the Startup type field, then hit the Stop button and click Apply and OK. All done. Nahimic now remains disabled on rebooting the computer.
