Video FX makes Video jerky and slow?

I'm using Vegas 4.0
When I add a lot of Video FX it makes the movement in my video jerky and slower? The more FX I add the worse it gets. I'm also talking about the media FX generators in Vegas. I just got the Magic Bullet for editors software and although it has some cool looks it really makes the movement in the video jerky and slow.

Has anyone else experienced this problem? Please help this is killing my FX creativity?
thanks
DH

Without more information, my first guess is that you're talking about the preview window and that's most likely what always happens as soon as you start adding effects or extra video tracks. Get as much ram as possible, that will help but the more effects you add, the slower it all becomes. I've never tried 'Magic Bullet', but I've heard it takes forever to process this effect. It will all look normal once it's been rendered. (unless you have real problems) I use to only have 256 ram and it looked jerky without doing anything. Now I'm at 768 ram, and an .avi runs at at perfect 29.97 fps. That is until I start adding effects and more video tracks.

This is normal. The more effects you add, the harder the CPU has to work to apply those effects. To compensate, and maintain real-time, Vegas applies a couple of things:

1) Change the preview quality (i.e. if you are on Good (Full), drop it to Preview (Auto)) The lower the quality of the preview, the faster it can apply the effects. The preview quality will NOT affect the final render.

2) Vegas will reduce the frame rate so it can maintain speed. So, instead of getting 30 fps, you may only get 20 (or 10, or 5 fps) depening on the number of effects added.

Yes the jerky looking slowed down video is in the preview window. I have 2 Gig of Ram.
The problem is not only do the movements in the video look jerky and slow but the audio now won't match?
any thoughts?

I have used the Magic Bullett FX on a 1.5 hour video at the request of the client. It was "jerky" in the preview monitor but after render, another story, the video was fine and really looked good. The Magic Bullett render on my 1 gig ram, 1.5 ghz Athon XP PC was eight (8) days to render the video.

EIGHT DAYS!? Damn, I'm going to be careful with that MB plug. :)

dholt - The audio will be fine once you render the project. If you are trying to sync some video FX to the sound, just zoom in on the time line and look at the waveform visavi the preview window. And you can always do a dynamic RAM preview to watch it in real time.

Thanks everyone. I'm going to test part of a music video I did with MB applied and render it out and watch it on DVD.

I appreciate the help, I just spent $200 on this plug in and then went from, that looks cool to what the ?
