VIDEO FX not working

Kimberly-Durecki wrote on 2/25/2024, 11:36 AM

Hello,

I am in desperate need of help please. I have had actually nothing but programs since I upgraded to Vegas Pro 20. It is always one problem after another. Here is the latest. All of a sudden when I try to use some video Fx it wont connect to the video clip. When I add the video fx the video event FX screen pops up and shows it is added, but it is not on the clip. I have already updated my drivers, and then actually rolled back the drivers to see if that is the problem and it is not. I have done a reset of vegas and that did not work, I have uninstalled and reinstalled vegas and that has not helped either. I am at my wits end. If you can help I would appreciate it. Thank you.

How do you know that?

I have already updated my drivers, and then actually rolled back the drivers to see if that is the problem and it is not.

Which drivers and numbers?

I have done a reset of vegas and that did not work,

Which number and build of Vegas?
Properties of the machine on which it is installed?

met vriendelijke groet
Marten

@Kimberly-Durecki Hi, you've missed out quite an important part of @j-v's request, -

When I add the video fx the video event FX screen pops up and shows it is added, but it is not on the clip.

'How do you know that?'

Please explain how you're applying the fx & where you're applying it to?

You can upload pictures & video (screen capture of Vegas) using the arrow button next to the smiley at the top of a new comment,

Have you turned on the "Split Screen" button above the preview screen? If yes, turn that off. It's the button that's a circle that's have dark and half light to the right of the "FX" button.

I dont use the split screen and it is not on :(

I am applying the FX as I have always done for the past 10 plus years. I choose Video FX and choose my FX and then drag the icon into my clip. The Fx does not show up on the clip as it has always done. It shows it in the Video Event Fx box as if it is there but it is not. I went back a few old drivers and that did not fix the problem either. I am now back to the updated driver.

@Kimberly-Durecki

S_SwishPan is a wipe transition fx that is applied directly to the event just as you've done but needs to be controlled by the Wipe Amount & needs to be keyframed,

Can you show it with a different fx like a blur? (If this is the same problem with all fx's..)

Kimberly-Durecki wrote on 2/25/2024, 3:29 PM

Hi, I have had this FX for years. All I ever had to do was drag it to the clip, no wipe needed, no keyframes.

I used it yesterday as you can see it on the clip in the timeline. I cant not get it to attach to a clip after yesterday. No updates were done to my Pc. I was working on a project and wanted to use the FX again in the video and it just would not attached to the clip. The only way I got it to work was to copy the FX and paste it to another clip. The problem is I tried to use it after yesterdays project and I cant get it on the clip.

@Kimberly-Durecki  Sorry this is getting mixed up, In the first image you showed the S_SwishPan FX added to the event just as it should, now in the pic above you show the S_SwishPan Transition that is applied to crossfade/transition of two events as it looks like you have correctly done..?

Kimberly-Durecki wrote on 2/25/2024, 3:44 PM

The first clip is the one I was trying to do today and as you can see the FX did not attach to the clip. The 2nd one I showed just a few minutes ago was from yesterdays project where I used the same FX and it worked. It does not work now, I showed this to you from the .veg file that I saved. I went back to yesterday file to see if the FX was still there or to see it is was not working because it wont work now and it works on the .veg from yesterday, just not any longer. Hope this helps;

@Kimberly-Durecki

 Yes i gathered it was how you'd like it to work in the second pic 👍 but the two are different, one is an fx found in the Video FX tab, the other is a transition found in the Transition tab. They are different, each is applied differently, the fx is applied directly to the event & needs to be controlled with keyframes, the other is a transition that is applied to the crossfade between to 2 clips & is automated in the movement/wipe amount, no keyframes needed.

The first clip is the one I was trying to do today and as you can see the FX did not attach to the clip.

This pic of yours (the 1st one) clearly shows the fx is applied, you just haven't manipulated it yet. Wipe Amount at 0 will show nothing has changed in the preview, not until you move the slider will anything happen.

OMG that is it!!!!! I have no idea how that slipped my mind. I have been using this transition for many years and acutally never even noticed it was in the VIDEO FX window also. I never used it from there. Do you know I was up until 5:30 am last night reinstalling Vegas, resetting vegas, rolling back drivers etc etc over and over again and this is what it was. I am going to go and scream now and then take a hot bath with a glass of wine. I can't believe this. What a idiot I am for not noticing this. OMG THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!

@Kimberly-Durecki 😊👍👍

Forgive me if you knew this, I said 'the other is a transition that is applied to the crossfade between to 2 clips '

You don't already have to have a crossfade, If you have two clips butted up to each other,

Then drag the transition on to the butt join a transition is auto created, the length of the transition is determined by the setting in Preferences,

Kimberly-Durecki wrote on 2/25/2024, 4:38 PM

Yes, I know exactly how to use it thank you :) The problem was I was in the VIDEO FX tab and choosing the S-Swish Pan / S-Swish Pan 3D, which obviously it was not working as it was not attaching itself to the clip like it does when I choose it from the transitions tab. ( I did not know Swish Pan was in VIDEO FX tab along with being in the Transition Tab) that was the entire problem. I was in the wrong TAB. Thank you for your help. I so appreciated it!!
